Mr. Richard Weingarten
Mr. Weingarten has a long and distinguished career in international development, law, venture capital, investment banking, and as an independent financial
advisor to a wide variety of firms around the world. He was most recently the Managing Director and Special Advisor to Intellecap in India, a pioneer in providing innovative business solutions that help build profitable and sustainable enterprises dedicated to social and environmental change.
While he was the Managing Director, Intellecap worked with more than 60 clients on over 250 engagements across 15 countries. Prior to his work at Intellecap, Richard was the founding Managing Director of the Norwegian Microfinance Initiative (NMI). During his tenure NMI made commitments and investments
of approximately USD 70 million in more than 80 Microfinance Institutions in 34 countries. Before joining NMI, Mr. Weingarten was the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). UNCDF made investments in Microfinance and Local Development in 28 of the world’s least developed countries, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. Richard is a graduate of Yale University and the Antioch School of Law.
